Looking fashionable doesn't have to be hard work. Here are the 12 items men will be wearing this summer and beyond.
"Every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man." (ZZ Top, Sharp Dressed Man)
While clothes don't necessarily make the man, they do give an impression of what the man is about. Is he a jock? Business type? Casual and carefree? These traits will be revealed in the outfits men wear. Like most women, most men don't want to come across as a slave to fashion, but they still want to be on point for the season. So boys, read on for the 12 must-haves for Summer 2009 and beyond.
- The Summer Suit - Lightweight and slimmed down, you'll find it in shades of grey, tan, navy, and brown (all classic colours). This key piece speaks of effortless dressing.
- The Brown Dress Shoe - Most men have black dress shoes, but try a brown pair on for size. It's still elegant but a bit more casual.
- The Patterned Tie - A great way to spice up your look! Look for florals, medallions, and geometric patterns. Wear with a blue shirt (No. 5) and a summer suit (No. 1).
- The Navy Blazer - Hands down, this item will always be a classic piece. Buy it in a slim cut and lighter-weight wool.
- The Blue Shirt - Pick a shade, any shade of blue and then buy a shirt in that colour. Try a short-sleeved sport shirt or a button-down dress s, depending on your style. It works well with the navy blazer (No. 4) and the summer suit (No. 1).
- The Deck Shoe - A great alternative to sneakers for informal occasions. The deck shoe has the style of a penny loafer and the comfort of a moccasin: the best of best worlds.
- The Bermuda Short - For more than just island wear, Bermuda shorts will be showing up in cities around the world. Never go shorter than just above the knee and wear with a deck shoe (No. 6) for the ultimate casual cool.
- The Polo Shirt - Takes you from the golf course to a night on the town; just add a jacket - maybe that navy blazer (No. 4) you just picked up?
- The Windbreaker - Sporty and casual, a windbreaker can be used in place of a sweater or a cardigan when paired with a tie. Otherwise, toss one on with your jeans for an easy, breezy weekend look.
- The Chino - Dress them up or down, chinos are now leaner without being tight. Try them as a chic alternative to jeans.
- The Trench Coat - Channel classically cool guys like Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant by tossing on a trench. This coat will always be in style.
- The Aviators - The sunglasses favoured by fly boys and Hollywood stars alike. Aviators come in a variety of colours and finishes. Find a pair you like and never take them off.
Happy shopping!
