Considered by many to be a domain entirely belonging to females - jewelry is also quite fashionable for men and, indeed, many men choose to wear it frequently.

Jewelry is often overlooked by many men due to a social stigma surrounding – some men wrongfully believing it to be overly effete or effeminate – though the great majority of men enjoy jewelry of some type and incorporate it into their daily wardrobe with ease and personality. Jewelry comes in all makes, sizes, and types and can suit men of any disposition and image.

Natural Jewelry Shell, Wood, Hemp, and Gemstone

Typically worn by, but not restricted to, younger men who are of a more artistic persuasion – natural jewelry has risen in popularity by leaps and bounds over the course of the last decade. Coinciding with a rising popularity in indie music as well as a growing fashion liberalism when it comes to men in contemporary society – natural jewelry is a great way of expressing ones own preferences and style.

Shell jewelry is popular with both men and women and can commonly be found strung on natural materials such as hemp as well as more traditional beading wire and filament. Common types of shell necklaces and bracelets typically incorporate popular varieties such as hammer shell, puka shells, or cowry shells. Shell jewelry also works very well with gemstones that can compliment its organic look, such as onyx, quartz of all varieties, sodalite, or lapis lazuli.

Wooden jewelry is also exceedingly popular in that it can be worn both casually or formally – the polish of wooden jewelry allowing it to convey a mature and sophisticated tone that is also fun and somewhat unorthodox in comparison to traditional jewelry. Wooden jewelry is commonly beaded as well, and can be augmented with semi-precious gemstones to taste – though in the case of men's jewelry it is most common to see wooden jewelry stick to a single material in order to maintain a more masculine look.

Gemstone jewelry is still gaining ground amongst the male demographic – particularly popular choices being hematite, onyx, and many other darker stones such as poppy jasper or even unakite. Hematite jewelry is inexpensive and looks great while maintaining a colour neutrality that benefits a casual look – particularly amongst men who prefer darker shaded wardrobes. While the majority of lighter coloured gemstones may serve as accent colours in shell jewely, for the most part it is still uncommon to find men wearing lighter coloured gemstone jewelry.

Traditional Materials Gold, White Gold, Silver, and Steel

While earrings and other piercing jewerly is exceeding common amongst modern males - gold, silver, and steel all being very prevalent choices – it is also more common to see men wear jewelry crafted from metals rather than other materials.

Gold jewelry is commonly held to be more appropriate for more mature gentleman, though this rule of thumb is certainly flexible. Men with a darker complexion or skin tone would do well to choose gold jewelry or accessories such as cufflinks, it is much more complementary to this complexion than it is to those of a more fair make-up.

White gold, silver and stainless steel jewerly is a very modern, stylish, and universal look for men – it is easily the most common choice with regards to male jewelry and one that will suit most everyone. Stainless steel cufflinks and tie clips are very common male accessories, but necklaces and bracelets made from these materials are also very fashionable – and can be embellished with gemstones with a great deal more freedom than pieces made entirely of them. Nearly any colour gemstone will suit a stainless steel necklace or bracelet – the fact that the gemstone is an accent colour within a more conservative base allows a great deal more freedom when it comes to personal choice.

All types of jewelry can offer something different, inspiring, and truly unique to an ensemble. Chosen carefully the right pieces of jewelry can set one apart from the rest – adding personality and flair to an otherwise staid outfit.
